Bridleway Gates - Fencing

Bridleway gates, also known as equestrian gates or horse gates, are specifically designed gates found along bridleways, which are designated paths or routes intended for use by horse riders, cyclists, and pedestrians. These gates serve the purpose of allowing horse riders and cyclists to pass through while preventing livestock and unauthorized vehicles from accessing the bridleway.
Similar to kissing gates, bridleway gates are often located in rural areas, particularly in the countryside, where bridleways traverse farmland, woodlands, or other types of open spaces. They are typically positioned at entry points where the bridleway intersects with a road, path, or field.
Bridleway gates come in various designs depending on their specific purpose and the preferences of the local authorities or landowners. Some common types of bridleway gates include:
• Single Gate: A single gate that can be opened and closed to allow passage. This type of gate is often hinged on one side and swings open or may have a latch or catch mechanism.
• Double Gate: Consists of two gates, one on each side of the bridleway. Both gates can be opened to create a wider opening for horse riders or cyclists.
• Squeeze Gate: A narrow passage with high barriers on each side that restricts the access of livestock or vehicles. Horse riders and cyclists can easily navigate through the narrow passage.
• Self-closing Gate: These gates are designed to automatically close after being opened, ensuring that the bridleway remains secure and livestock cannot pass through.
The material used for bridleway gates can vary, with wood and metal being common choices. They are constructed to be sturdy, durable, and able to withstand regular use and exposure to outdoor elements.
